After 30 deaths were recorded in 3 months this year [2018], veterinary researchers have warned of a 2nd wave of scrub typhus in Vidarbha [eastern region of Maharashtra state], expected during the harvest season in late January [2019]. In its 1st ever outbreak in Vidarbha, 200 cases of scrub typhus were reported between August and October [2018]. Even as the infection is on the decline, veterinary researchers expect it to resurface during the harvest season. [So far,] 35 deaths have been reported across Maharashtra while over 300 cases have been recorded with the maximum in Nagpur (101) and Nagpur Rural (60). 27 of the 35 deaths were reported from the 2 areas between August and October [2018].
